Mountain Biking in Oregon
The Guide to Your Ride
Mountain Biking in Oregon is as good as it gets. Oregon's geography is ideal for this sport including:
- The temperate rainforest
- The Cascade mountains
- The Columbia River Gorge
- Mt. Hood National Forest
Since Oregon is such a great place for mountain biking, there are very active clubs that you should consider joining.
Mountain Biking Portland
Portland mountain bikers should check out PUMP (Portland United Mountain Peddlers). This club is very active and even has planned rides in the winter. They will let you in on the best rides, and you'll meet other people who enjoy riding at your level. Non-members are always welcome, but it is only $20 a year to join.
For $10 more a year you can have a duel membership and join IMBA (International Mountain Bicycling Association). Joining these clubs goes a long way in helping to preserve mountain biking in Oregon now and in the future.
Mountain Biking Central Oregon
In July and August,
MBO
organizes three-day singletrack tours in Central Oregon's
Oakridge. These trips are great because you get to
ride demo bikes and test out exclusive gear from some of the top
brands in mountain biking.
You even get mechanical support from professionals. Here is one of the trails MBO has ridden in the past:
Oregon Mountain Biking Maps
Adventure Maps print very nice waterproof and tear resistant trail maps that will guide you to and through the back country.
You can buy a copy for $9.99, but if you click on these links below, you can view them entirely through the interactive map.

OR Mountain Biking Shops
The Bike Gallery - Bike Stores Portland
I have purchased two mountain bikes from The Bike Gallery. They have great service, they facilitate many events and rides for the community, and they have competitive prices - especially if you visit during their Spring sale!
Their main store is located downtown, and they have several locations, so find the one nearest you. I use the Hollywood store:
REI SE Portland Bicycle Shops
REI is a top notch outdoor sporting goods store. They stand behind their products so you can be sure you are getting quality when you buy from REI. Just be careful, because money tends to burn a whole in my pocket there. Check out the new store in SE Portland (Clackamas).
Fat Tire Farm - Portland Bike Shop
Fat Tire Farm is one of the Northwest's premiere mountain biking shops. This store exclusively serves cross country, freeride, urban, and downhill riders.
