Colorado Mountain Biking Trails

To give you a head start, here are some Colorado Mountain biking trail systems to check out.

Southwestern Rockies/Plateau

San Juan mountain biking:  In October 2002, National Geographic featured San Juan Hut Systems mountain biking tour.  This is truly "one of the nation's great adventure bargains".  They have built fully stocked huts that are about 30 miles apart, but you don't have to be an expert mountain biker to go on this tour.  Just work-up to some 30 mile rides in the Spring and you'll be ready by the Summer.  Trips are scheduled from June through September.

Central Rockies

Crested Butte mountain biking:  Home of the mountain bike hall of fame and possibly the best singletracks in the Rockies.  CBMBA (Crested Butte Mountain Biking Association) was established in 1983 and promotes/maintains mountain biking trails in the Crested Butte region.

Gunnison mountain biking:  This underrated trail system is only a half hour's drive from well known Crested Butte.

Mountain Biking - Colorado Bike Shops

There are over 200 bike shops in Colorado.  That means you can find one relatively near you.  Make sure you take advantage of your local bike store.  They will give you seasoned information on the best trails around, and remember most stores facilitate great rides for all levels of riding.  This is true especially in the Spring and Summer months before many of the trails close for the winter.
