Most mountain bikers feel uncomfortable wearing those skin-tight bike shorts, but they appreciate padded protection and comfort on their ride. If you are like me, you'll love having the best of both worlds. I call them "baggies".
The liner and padding are specially designed to give bikers
the comfort and protection they need. Baggies are not your
typical shorts.
Most baggy biking shorts include:
- Liners- anything from padded underwear to multiple panels with leg grippers.
- Pads (chamois)- sewn into the crotch of the shorts to give padding, and designed to fight bacteria.
(NOTE Bike shorts should be worn without underwear so that the seams won't cause chafing. Yes it is sanitary if you keep them relatively clean, but it is up to you)
- Crotch Gusset- helps to eliminate snags as you move back and forth on the seat.
- Waistband- these vary in design
- Adjustability- to prevent the pants from "catching air" there are sometimes adjustments on the legs.
- Pockets- these come in handy! Money, power bar, keys...
- Fly- Guys might appreciate this more than girls.
